Town Hall: Where Dissent Is Decent

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

I couldn't be more pleased with the fiery, unhinged turbulence engulfing our politicians at town hall meetings.

It could be the most beautiful thing I've seen come out of the American People over the last 30 years.

These People are mouthy, mannerless, and mean...and I am loving every minute of it.

"Oh, Liz," you say, "But, they're just so misinformed. They're ignorant, uncouth, vile. Surely, there are more civilized ways to discuss issues with our political leaders."

I ask you, Citizen: When was the last time you made a visit to your representative?

     Allow me...

I show up, having called ahead of time to set the appointment. I am greeted by the secretary who tells me that A) the Honorable Scum Sucker is in session, B) the Honorable Scum Sucker won't be in for the day, or C) the Honorable Scum Sucker is out having his/her anus bleached, courtesy of my tax dollars. But! The secretary is always "more than happy" to take down my name and pass along my concern.

When I mail or email my representative, I receive an automated response, addressing not at all the concern which moved me to write to the Vampire in the first place.

If you call, you will leave a message. (Watch attached video, showing how Alderman Luis Gutierrez has "listened" to his constituents in the 4th district in Chicago)

     That is how it goes.

Politicians, in their negligence and refusal to act in accordance with the People's will, have forfeited the blah-blah-freakin'-blah political rhetoric of their comfort zone.

For the first time in my life, I've seen the People resist the dizzying, rehearsed bullshit being vomited on them by their elected leaders.  If this doesn't look or sound pretty to the media, to newspaper columnists, to the politicians, well too goddam bad - The American Revolution didn't make the cover of Vogue, either.

And, don't be fooled, folks. There's nothing, and I mean NOTHING, more beloved by Uncle Sam than poor, ignorant, American bastards. These are the souls he keeps wadded up in his fist. These are the souls who trust him and vote for the minions who do his dirty work.

Our political leaders do NOT want a discussion with Americans who are well-spoken, well-versed, and responsible.  They want the illusion of an exchange with Americans who are stupid.

To this, I say: These outspoken, rowdy, angry Americans at the town hall meetings are NOT stupid. They are vigilant. They are confrontational. They are standing up and refusing to be tread on.

A smart American can see that.
