     As Membership Chair of the Libertarian Party of Chicago, I am always getting asked, "How can I get involved?"

     People are being moved to action after witnessing the irresponsible, unaccountable, deceitful, and criminal acts of their elected representatives.  We've had Tea Parties, Town Hall meetings, petitioning, protests, call-a-thons, email and fax-athons.  We've even Youtubed the hell out of bad behaving cops.

     But now, we're engaging in the most high, most honorable use of our own 'People Power'.  No, we are not overthrowing the government.   We are becoming it.

     Ever since Ron Paul pulled the starting gun's trigger, the Campaign for Liberty has been fueling the race of People, everyday Americans, running for office.

     Some of the candidates may be from your district.  Check them out here.

     In addition to these, John Garrido is running for Cook County Board President.  Although I happen to agree with Garrido on most of the issues, the issue I most agree with him on is this:  He's not a corrupt mofo like the current Todd Stroger.  If you agree that ANYONE is better than Stroger (or your local shitty politician who continues to run and win, unopposed) then it is in your best interest to make sure s/he gets on the ballot and wins!

     My personal friend and Congressional Candidate for the 5th District IL is David Ratowitz.  His kickoff fundraiser is tonight from 6 to 8pm at the Irish American Heritage Center at 4626 N Knox Ave.  If you are unable to make the event, but still wish to support David's candidacy, you may mail a contribution to:

410 S. Michigan Ave., Suite 726
Chicago, IL 60605

or pay by credit card @ http://www.ratowitzforcongress.com/

David advocates:

* Free market economics
* Sound, accountable monetary policy
* Streamlined, strong national defense
* Secure civil liberties
* Universal school choice
* Decentralized, individualized health care

     I've known David for about a year.  I can tell you that he is very intelligent, well-spoken (sorry, if that offends you racially, David), and a man of action.  He is a leader and a man of the People, and is officially ENDORSED BY FORMER CITIZEN!

    Below is a piece David wrote.  Check it out.   Then, vote for him.

     On days like today (the last Friday of the month) I like to take part in something called Critical Mass.

     Critical Mass is an urban biking adventure in which riders take back the streets in a leaderless swarm of freedom and excitement.

     So far, I've only ridden in Chicago's Critical Mass.  The routes change every month, but they are always long (about 30 miles) and well attended.  This month is especially cool because it ends up at a T-shirt Harvest Festival (at the American Indian Center 1630 W Wilson).

     My favorite thing about The Mass is how it embodies the spirit of the civil disobedience.  No traffic laws are obeyed by the Mass.  Made of individuals from all ends of the political spectrum, the Mass rides together in an Us versus Them state of mind.  And, that's how the People need to start thinking again.  Forget about the "issues" - they are only there to distract you from the One Real Issue - that is, freedom or tyranny.  Us OR Them.  It just can't be both.

     Critical Mass is a jolly good time and everyone riding with you is there to have fun.  It's "instant friends" as one gal beside me once put it.  A community on wheels, if you will.

     Wherever you live, I urge you to ride in the Mass.  If your city doesn't have one, start one.  It's the best way to have a "Happy Friday!"

     After hearing Oprah say "Chicago's the best city in the world" it all made perfect sense to me.
     Mayor Daley called on Oprah to celebrate her 24th season in an extraordinary way:  Take over the MagMile and talk up this town in an effort to rally support for the Olympics.
     I can just hear it now: Daley saying 'I really want to showcase the city. Have a big party on Michigan Avenue.'
     Ughhh - the party might have been big, but it appeared to be miserable from the looks of this video. I tell you, the Black Eyed Peas are just the bane of American pop music right now. I have never heard/seen a band more abysmal. I just can't say enough bad things about them.
     For the record, I am 100% sure that Chicago will get the Olympics in 2016. If you don't believe me, take a stroll along the Lake from Lincoln Park down to the South Loop. You'll see some things you didn't see before; things that appear quite Olympic in size and structure.
     It's already here. Oprah's just getting us excited about it.

     I couldn't be more pleased with the fiery, unhinged turbulence engulfing our politicians at town hall meetings.

     It could be the most beautiful thing I've seen come out of the American People over the last 30 years.

     These People are mouthy, mannerless, and mean...and I am loving every minute of it.

     "Oh, Liz," you say, "But, they're just so misinformed. They're ignorant, uncouth, vile. Surely, there are more civilized ways to discuss issues with our political leaders."

     I ask you, Citizen: When was the last time you made a visit to your representative?

     Allow me...

             I show up, having called ahead of time to set the appointment. I am greeted by the secretary who tells me that A) the Honorable Scum Sucker is in session, B) the Honorable Scum Sucker won't be in for the day, or C) the Honorable Scum Sucker is out having his/her anus bleached, courtesy of my tax dollars. But! The secretary is always "more than happy" to take down my name and pass along my concern.

     When I mail or email my representative, I receive an automated response, addressing not at all the concern which moved me to write to the Vampire in the first place.

     If you call, you will leave a message. (Watch attached video, showing how Alderman Luis Gutierrez has "listened" to his constituents in the 4th district in Chicago)

     That is how it goes.

     Politicians, in their negligence and refusal to act in accordance with the People's will, have forfeited the blah-blah-freakin'-blah political rhetoric of their comfort zone.

     For the first time in my life, I've seen the People resist the dizzying, rehearsed bullshit being vomited on them by their elected leaders.  If this doesn't look or sound pretty to the media, to newspaper columnists, to the politicians, well too goddam bad - The American Revolution didn't make the cover of Vogue, either.

     And, don't be fooled, folks. There's nothing, and I mean NOTHING, more beloved by Uncle Sam than poor, ignorant, American bastards. These are the souls he keeps wadded up in his fist. These are the souls who trust him and vote for the minions who do his dirty work.

     Our political leaders do NOT want a discussion with Americans who are well-spoken, well-versed, and responsible.  They want the illusion of an exchange with Americans who are stupid.

     To this, I say: These outspoken, rowdy, angry Americans at the town hall meetings are NOT stupid. They are vigilant. They are confrontational. They are standing up and refusing to be tread on.

     A smart American can see that.

Dart It Up

     In the Chicago Sun-Times today, "Mayor Daley portrayed the 2016 Summer Olympic Games as the economic salvation for Chicago, but warned Wednesday that it could lose the bid 'if people keep throwing darts.'"

     Daley said, "I would never bankrupt the City of Chicago."

     He added, "This is the best economic engine we have going.  I have nothing [else] up my sleeve."

     Now, as much as my gut is inclined to trust a politician, especially one from Chicago, I still felt compelled to do a little Olympic economic research of my own.

    Although host cities often predict a post-Olympics tourism boom in the afterglow of hosting the Olympics, many studies refute this.

    A study by Giesecke and Madden from the Centre of Policy Studies at Monash University in Australia shows that tourism to Sydney after the 2000 Olympics grew less than tourism to Australia as a whole.

   According to "Bidding for the Olympics: Fool's Gold?" by Baade and Matheson, "There is no economic residue that can be identified once the Games left town."

    In "Olympic Cities: Lessons Learned from Mega-Event Politics" by Andranovich, Burbank and Heying, "The long time-frames needed for planning, the use of public-private partnerships to design and implement Olympic development, and the absence of general citizen participation during this process add up to an extended business-as-usual theme in urban politics behind the rhetoric and symbolism of the Olympic movement."

     There's just no convincing evidence that allows one to believe that hosting the Olympics will be good for the People of Chicago.

     Mayor Daley is putting all the City's eggs in one basket, and admits to having "nothing else up his sleeve."

     The Olympic bid and the Word of Mayor Daley:  Two things I throw darts at.
